I started blogging because I wanted to share my experiences as a substitute teacher in rural Ireland. As far as I am aware, when I set up the blog no other blog was specific to rural Ireland. I wanted to share ideas and experiences, the joys and the struggles of being a new substitute teacher in the country. I never realised it would be so difficult and that I would find myself in London. This gave me another unique perspective which I could share with others. I am an Irish NQT in London. Blogging here gave me the chance to vent and put in writing how I was feeling (not all were published - sometimes I just wanted to vent) but through the blog I have shared some beautiful experiences (flowers from a student for Valentine's Day) and some of the worst days so far in my teaching career (reaching breaking point) but I didn't share experiences like having a student threaten me with a metal bar, seeing my TA after a student had thrown a chair at her, having a student physically hit me - these were the posts that were never published. Teaching is hard enough with out other teachers making remarks behind our backs through an anonymous forum.
I blog honestly. I do not have the perfect classroom. I do not just share the great work done by my class or the great achievements I have made. I blog about me and my teaching. If you want to see my life as a teacher continue reading and following. I hope you enjoy the journey.
