What does a sub need?
The first thing a sub needs to do is get organised. This means having your CV, cover letter, Garda Vetting and Statutory Declaration ready to hand into schools. The Garda Vetting letter comes from the Teaching Council and must be dated either this year or last year - anything older than that needs to be renewed. The Statutory Declaration can be printed here and needs to be signed by a Practising Solicitor / Commissioner for Oaths / Notary Public / Peace Commissioner (Please note that a solicitor can charge for this). Some schools may also request a Form of Undertaking (which has to be signed in the presence of a staff member).
How should I send CVs to schools?
Getting CVs into schools can be a problem. In small schools there may not be a full time secretary and a teaching principal meaning there is no one available to accept your CV. For these schools I will try to visit before or after school. Remember to be nice to whoever you give your CV to and staff that you meet in the school. This will be the first impress that the school get of you and you want to impress.
I will be visiting all local schools in person and will post/email my CV and cover letter to other schools.
